Well, the election is over, and the Republicans have not lost any ground. Shit. I received an E-mail from the Health Department that the government is going to start immunizing healthcare workers such as myself against Smallpox in the next two months. Double Shit. That can only mean one thing; if the government is willing to start a campaign for universal Smallpox vaccination, then they must be expecting trouble. Or, they are going to start a war and are expecting trouble. Either way we are in trouble.

What do you tell you kids? "Don't worry, it will be OK?" I don't think that is fair. Yet is it fair to terrorize them yourself, stripping away their childhood with fears of diseases with 30% mortality?

Since the fall of the Soviet Union, life had started to feel pretty good. No more nukes. No movies like "The Morning After". My kids wouldn't wake up crying at night afraid of an atomic bomb. But, then comes Pakistan and North Korea with Nukes. Then comes Smallpox. Can't one generation live in peace, without fear of anihilation?
