- Q: Should I get a walker for my baby?
A: Walkers have fallen out of favor. They are associated with increased accidents. They tip over easily and they allow a non-walking child to get into things they otherwise would not get into. They also retard walking skills rather than improve them So, as a general rule, we do not recommend them. In addition, a recent study showed not only delayed motor skills but also delayed cognitive functioning (intelligence) in walker babies. - Updated: March 23, 2001 -
