    33. My car has an airbag - Top

Q: We recently purchased a new car which has 2 air bags in the front and I am wondering how we should handle our daughters (4 month old) car seat? C.M.

A: When car seats are rear facing as your daughter's seat should be, an air bag that expands can hit the car seat and thrust it rapidly toward the rear of the car and cause injury to the child. Therefore, when a child is in the rear facing car seat, they should be in a seat in which there is no air hag. In your new car, this would mean your child should be in the backseat.
