    How can mercury harm children?

    Severe exposure, either from eating highly contaminated fish or by inhaling high concentration mercury vapors, can produce a broad range of effects on the central nervous system, kidneys, skin and lungs.
    In children, mercury exposure to the central nervous system can result in a range of effects, from learning disabilities to devastating neurologic problems including mental retardation, blindness and spasticity.
