- 10. Are there some cases of Anorexia nervosa and Bulimia nervosa that are caused by a person wanting the "ideal supermodel" body? - Top
- Of course many, many women are convinced by the media that it is desirable to have a very thin build. These women may try dieting and exercise to achieve the desired results. Some may succede and some may fail. many may realize that their body was not meant to be a size 5 (for example). However, this is not Anorexia or Bulemia.
Persons with Anorexia or Bulemia seem to have a truely altered self image. They look into the mirror and no matter how thin they appear, they are just "too fat". So, it is not enough to "want" the ideal supermodel body. The individual also has to have either an altered self-image, poor self-esteem (believing she will win approval by being thinner), or unusual social pressures to develop Anorexia or Bulemia.
