- 12. Should I let my 10 yr old son lift weights? - Top
- Any child can lift weights if they are properly monitored by an adult, preferably someone trained in the proper use of weights. Any pain associated with weight lifting should indicate the body is being over taxed or improperly used (contrary to the "no pain, no gain" statement). Boys prior to puberty have essentially no testosterone in their system, therefore weight lifting prior to puberty will not lead to increased muscle bulk. With this in mind, prior to puberty weight lifting is only undertaken for fun and should be treated as such.
