- 2. What is the Hepatitis A vaccine? - Top
- Hepatitis A is a viral infection of the liver that is transmitted from food and body secretions. Typically it occurs from an outbreak at a restuarant, cruise ship, or in a group living environement, but sporadic cases can occur.
The good news is that the infection goes away in a week or two with no harm.
However, it can be a costly illness. You may miss a week of work or school. You may spend thousands of dollars on tests to find out why you are jaundiced (yellow), and you may have to have painful and somewhat risky Immune Globulin injections.
So, it is very cost-effective to get this vaccine which itself rarely has any side effects. - Updated: June 8, 2010 -
