- 13. Should my child get Hepatitis B vaccine? - Top
- Q: I have heard that there is a vaccine against Hepatitis B. should my child get it?
A: There is a vaccine against Hepatitis B and it is recommended now for all infants and teenagers. It is recommended for infants so that eventually everyone will be immunized (protected) against Hepatitis B. Teenagers are recommended because they are a high rich group. Another group encouraged to get the vaccine is medical or dental personnel because of their exposure. For protection, anyone may receive the vaccine. The vaccine is genetically created and contains no blood products and carries only mild side effects of sometimes fever and aches. Three doses are required. 2nd dose given 1 month after the first and 3rd dose given 6 months after the first). Hepatitis B is a disease we would like to eliminate and the vaccine is one way we can accomplish this for the future.
