    12. When to give a premature baby her shots - Top

Q: My daughter is a premature infant and I need to know when it is safe for her to start her "baby shots"

A: All research has shown that premature infants should receive their immunizations on the same schedule as any other infants with no increased side effects or decreased response to the immunizations; this means that they can receive the first Hepatitis B vaccine in the nursery and the next series of immunizations at 2 months of age. Of course, this is assuming that they are not having medical problems related to their prematurity. If they are at home doing well they should be able to receive their shots on time unless your physician advises you otherwise.
