- Question: Why does Cefzil have to be refrigerated? Will it hurt my child to give it when it hasn't been refrigerated?
Answer: many antibiotic suspensions require refrigeration to slow down the breakdown of the antibiotic in solution. Some antibiotics are very stable in solution and therefore do not require refrigeration. An antibiotic that is supposed to be refrigerated can lose the majority of its strength if left out at room temperature even for a few hours and therefore should not be used. - Updated: May 19, 2001
