    4. Why don't you give shots of Penicillin any more? - Top

    The forms of penicillin that are given as injections stay in the muscle for a long time. Therefore, if a patient has an allergic reaction, the drug is still in their system for days or weeks. There are situations where a shot of penicillin is appropriate, but with the newer anti-nausea medications there are few occasions when these shots are more beneficial than oral antibiotics. - Updated: June 4, 2010
