    No. Influenza (the flu) is a viral illness and will not respond to antibiotics. In general, it runs its course in time. There are several anti-viral medicines available that do shorten the flu. Tamiflu is the most commonly used, alone with Relenza, and amantidine. - Updated: May 19, 2001
