    21. Vantin - Top

    Vantin is a commonly prescribed antibiotic for infections that don't respond to amoxicillin. It has a wide range of uses including infections of the ears, nose, throat, chest, and urinary tract.

    People that are allergic to Penicillin or Amoxicillin have a 10% chance of being allergic to Vantin as well. Do not take Vantin if you have had a previous allergic reaction to other "Cephalosporins" without asking your doctor.

    The most common side effects of Vantin are skin rash and diarrhea. If your child experiences diarrhea with Vantin, try to work through it- cut out juices, and avoid fatty foods.

    Vantin, like any antibiotic, can take up to 3 days to work- please be patient unless your child is getting worse or new symptoms. - Updated: March 9, 2001
