- 16. Bactrim or Septra or TMP/SMZ - Top
- Bactrim is a commonly prescribed antibiotic for infections that don't respond to or are allergic to amoxicillin. It has a wide range of uses including infections of the ears, nose, throat, chest, and urinary tract.
Do not take Bactrim if you have had a previous allergic reaction to other "Sulfas" without asking your doctor.
The most common side effects of Bactrim are skin rash and diarrhea. If your child experiences diarrhea with Bactrim, try to work through it- cut out juices, and avoid fatty foods.
Bactrim, like any antibiotic, can take up to 3 days to work- please be patient unless your child is getting worse or new symptoms. - Updated: March 9, 2001
