    24. When Should I take away the pacifier? - Top

I think 15 months is a good age to get rid of both the pacifier and the bottle.

After that age, they start to be more like a two year old- stubborn and set in their ways- and may fight you more over the issue. Also, by 15 months the toddler should no longer need the pacifier for its sucking urges and may wake up at night more looking for it.

How do you get rid of it? I think the only really good way is just to take it away all at once. Some people have had their toddler toss the pacifiers and/or bottles in the trash can and say "bye-bye!" to them. They can then be reminded later when they request the pacifier that "we threw them away, remember?" Just don't give in for a couple of days and you should be successful. - Updated: March 5, 2001
