    19. My baby has a rash! What should I do? - Top

There are several common rashes that newborns get. In the first few days some babies get a rash called Erythema Toxicum, which is a harmless rash that looks likes hives or mosquito bites- red blotches with a central bump. This is harmless and will run its course in a few days. It should NOT be blisters- in that case call. Some babies get white dots on the face and nose. These are called Milia and will go away also. wash the baby's face with a washcloth when bathing and this will help the white bumps go away.

Newborn rashes that are a problem are those that are dark red/purple blood blisters, fluid filled blisters, peeling of skin like a sunburn, and redness around the belly button. Please call if you see on of these rashes. - Updated: March 20, 2001
