    11. Catnip tea for colic? - Top

Q: My Grandmother suggest I give my 2 month old baby Catnip tea for colic. He's keeping me up every night. is there anything better to give him for this?

A: Colic in a complex group of symptoms that some baby's present with. These include crying, arching back, acting hungry, drawing up legs, tense muscles, and increased gas. Some babies have all of these symptoms and some babys only demonstrate a few. Colic can last for a few days to a few months. Medical science does not completely understand colic so we have yet to come up with a universal answer. If an infant has colic he or she needs to be looked at individually and a plan established for that particular child and family. A colicky child is very stressful to a family and requires a team approach because a tense parent leads to a tense child so parents and others need to relieve mother or father from time to time. There are numerous home remedies such as catnip tea and there are numerous Medical remedies. Sometimes they work and sometimes not. As long as the cure is not more dangerous than the "problem" it is OK to try things; but check with your doctor first.
