    Q: Do you have any recommendations on the purchase of a crib?

    A: Yes, there are several things to look for in the purchase of a crib. l) the crib should meet the standard of the Consumer Product Safety Commission (this in usually stated on the product), 2) slats should not be more than 2 inches apart, 3) the wood surface should be free of splinters and cracks and have lead-free paint, 4) there should be no cross bars on the sides, 5) the sides, when lowered, should be 4 inches above the mattress, 6) the sides should be operated with a locking, hand-operated latch which is secure from accidental release, 7) the mattress should be the same size as the crib to avoid gaps to catch arms or legs and 8) the minimum rail height should be 22 inches from top of the railing to mattress at the lowest setting.
