    A newborn with yellow sclera (the white part of the eye) is probably jaundiced. You need to speak to your baby's doctor about it. Jaundice at this age is common and is usually due to the natural process of breaking down extra red blood cells. If a baby is yellow enough, he may need treatment for this such as phototherapy. - Updated: June 3, 2001
