- Cat nip has been given to babies over the years for relaxation, but has never been shown to be truly effective.
Since Cat nip is not a "drug" which is controlled by the FDA, there is no regulation what so ever as to how much of whatever active ingredients it may contain. For this reason I do not recommend cat nip for any of my patients. - Updated: June 3, 2001
