- 4. Newborn eye color - Top
- Question: It seems that all newborns are born with eyes that look blue. About how long beore you know the true color? Also how long before they can actually see (focus)?
Answer: Many newborns do have a gray/blue eye color. This may change to the permenant eye color over time, and is usually reliable by about six months of age.
Infants can focus from the time they are born. However, their eyes have a fairly fixed focal length of about 16 inches at that time- the distance to their mother's face while nursing! Their ability to focus at different distances improves over the first few months. - Updated: June 3, 2001
