    3. Skin around circumcised penis is irritated - Top

    Question: I have a circumsized 9 week old male. In the last week his penis seems to be retracting or becomeing invirted,is this normal?
    Also the skin around the head of his penis seems to be red and irritated looking, what should I do?

    Answer: many babies have a pronounced fat pad over the pubis bone which can "swallow up" the penis. This is harmless but, can lead to the skin around the corona (the base of the head of the penis)becoming stuck to the head of the penis. Often these adhesions will pop apart by themselves and look red and raw. Neosporin may help this heal. If the penis or skin is red and puffy or has a pus discharge, see your doctor right away. - Updated: June 3, 2001
