- 29. My Baby has dry irritated skin. What can I do? - Top
- First, cut back on bathing a bit. Bathing can dry out the skin. Second, use a good skin lotion such as Eucerin right after the bath and one or two other times daily.
Soaps can be irritating- Dove seems to be milder than most "baby bars".
Laundry detergents can irritate too. Used Dreft or an unscented detergent for the least irritation.
Fabric Softeners and Dryer Sheets (Bounce) are very irritating to many babies. Avoid them.
Over the counter 1% Hydrocortisone cream (Cortaid-10) can be safely used twice a day on babies. Apply lightly to the rough spots and coat with Eucerin over it. Avoid using cortisone on the face without asking the doctor first. - Updated: March 5, 2001
