    9. The Shadow From The Past - Top

    It was late one afternoon as I started home from school. I had the strange feeling that someone was watching me. I looked across the street and saw the shadowy figure of a tall man dressed in a long black coat, pants, and shoes. He was also wearing a black top hat. His gaze made me feel very uneazy. I decided to walk faster and reached home in record time.

    Everywhere I went for the next two days, he was always there watching me. I decided to tell my mom about this stranger and how frightened I was. She comforted me by saying she would come to meet me after school the next day. As we started home I looked across the street and pointed him out to my mom. She said she didn't see anyone there. She thought I was making it up. She decided that she would come to school one last time to see if she could see this strange person.

    The next day as we left school sure enough there was a look of astonishment on her face and she said "I see him. He looks like an old picture we have of your great great grandfather. Let's hurry home and see if we can find the picture." After we looked through a large album, we saw the picture. My mom said I didn't have to worry any more since she was sure that he meant me no harm.

    After school the next day as I came out the door, there he was waiting. I decided to go and speak to him. As I stepped down from the curb I stumbled and dropped my notebook and papers flew everywhere. As I scrambled to pick them up I didn't notice the huge truck bearing down on me. Suddenly I was lifted into the air and over the truck to the other side of the street and was sitting down by the stranger. I reached out to touch him and I saw a faint smile on his face and just then he patted my hand and vanished.
