- 34. Should my child receive a TB skin test? - Top
- Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease primarily of the lungs and was more common fifty years ago but has been on the rise in the past decade. However, the recommendations for screening has changed to only screen those people at high risk for exposure.
Your child should be tested with a TB skin test if she has an immune problem (immune deficiency, cancer, or AIDS); exposed to someone with TB, recent travel to a high risk area such as the Orient, Central or South America, contact with prison inmates, or regular contact with migrant workers.
If your child does not fit any of these circumstances, there is no need for her to receive the skin test. If you are still unsure, please call the office. - Updated: March 22, 2001 -
