- Q: What is Hand-Foot-Mouth disease?
A: Hand-Foot-Mouth disease is a viral illness common in the Spring and Summer. It causes red rash and blisters on the palms, soles and sometimes buttocks as well as sores or ulcers in the mouth; hence the name. It lasts for 3 to 7 days and resolves spontaneously. There is no treatment and the only major concern is the pain in the mouth and sometimes decreased intake by small children. - Updated: March 24, 2001 -
