- 13. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) in Daycare - Top
- We are often asked questions about chidren who have been diagnosed with CMV, and whether they should be allowed to attend daycare.
CMV infections are VERY common, and most often have no recognizable symptoms.
True, cytomegalovirus does have a potential for damaging a fetus, when a susceptible women becomes infected during pregnancy.
However, due to the widespread prevelance of CMV, it is NOT recommended to exclude these children from daycare. Further, it is not recommended to exclude pregnant women from caring for these children.
Any pregnant women in this situation should discuss the matter with her obstetrician.
