    18. Are warts contagious? - Top

    Q: Are warts contagious?

A: Warts are caused by a virus, the papillomavirus and are slightly contagious, but do not actively spread from person to person like other illnesses. Warts are very common in children over 2 years of age with reports that 50% of school children will have warts at some time during their childhood. Most warts eventually go away on their own. There are many forms of treatment when children want them to go away. If you desire treatment, it is best to speak to your child's doctor to discuss the options.
