- 1. What is MRSA - Top
- Methicillin Resistant Staph Aureus (MRSA) is a bacteria. It used to be only found in patients in hospitals and in nursing homes. However, in recent years, it has started to show up as a common infection in adults and children in the community (Community Acquired MRSA).
The most common finding is a sudden large boil somewhere on the body. Often people will think this is a spider bite. It gets larger and more painful rapidly.
The primary treatment for MRSA is to drain the abcess by opening it up. This is sometimes done in the office, or other times in the operating room depending on many factors.
Antibiotics are sometimes give by mouth as well as a specific skin care regimen to decrease the chance of it coming back again. - Updated: June 4, 2010 -
