    9. My child's temperature is below normal. - Top

    If you take your child's temperature and it is below normal (significantly below 98.6 degrees F) than you probably took the temperature incorrectly.

    The only two exceptions to this should be hypothermia (such as being out in the cold too long, which CAN be an emergency), and a child that is very, very sick and in shock.

    So, if you record a temperature that is below normal and your child looks well, it is probably not a problem. If you record a temperature that is below normal and you child looks "sick" you should call for advice immediately. - Updated: March 5, 2001
