    15. my 3 year old is afraid of many things - Top

Q: My child just turned 3 years old and he seems to be afraid of everything; what should I do?

A: Fears and phobias commonly arise in thin age group. They are now more aware of their surroundings, have some level of magical thinking, and are becoming more independent. Some suggestions are as follows:

    1) Observe and listen carefully when your child exhibits fear. Do not scold or belittle.

    2) Try to understand the world from their point of view.

    3) Don't pressure them to be brave - this may increase their fears

    4) Reassure them that you will be there to help and protect them.

    5) Eliminate stimulants to fear with the primary one being TV (even cartoons).

6)and remember that most childhood fears pass with some time and compassion.
