    5. Smoking around Children - Top

Passive Smoking or the effects on children who have parents that smoke has been shown to have significant health consequences for children.

The risk of having a baby die of crib death (SIDS) has been shown to be 4.4 times higher for a baby with a mother that smokes.

Children with smokers in the household have more visits to the doctor for illnesses. They are hospitalized more often for respiratory problems such as asthma, bronchitis, and pneumonia, and spend longer periods in the hospital than children from non-smoking households.

Smoking is a difficult habit to break but for your chil's sake consider doing it outside at least so it will not affect his or her respiratory system as much. - Updated: January 18, 2002
