- 18. Falls - Top
- Children, particularly toddlers learning to walk, fall frequently. Simple preventive measures can be helpful including:
-Gates to block stairway falls -safe railings on porches or balconies -window safety latches -appropriate length dresses and pant legs -no dangling shoe laces.
Furniture with sharp corners and edges and fireplace hearths can turn a simple fall into a complicated laceration.
In the bathroom, floors should be kept dry and some form of skid proof surface should be in the tub.
Toddlers because of unavoidable falls will have bruises on their shins and forehead. Because of the heavy weight and size of a child's head, they literally go into everything "head first". - Updated: April 27, 2001 -
