- 13. Immunizations: Polio - Top
- Immunizations to protect children against diseases is one of the major advances of modern preventative medicine. We have greatly reduced or eliminated several diseases that were killers in the past.
Polio Vaccine is now given as the dead or "Inactivated Polio Vaccine" (IPV) which is given as a shot rather than the Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV). It is given at 2, 4, 9 - 18 months, and 4 or 5 years.
This vaccine cannot give Polio to anyone, and has no major side effects. - Updated: June 6, 2001
