    Like adults, American toddlers tend to eat all the wrong foods. Chicken Nuggets and other fried fast food does not move through their bowels well. A healthy high fiber diet adds bulk to the stool and helps form good stools. The whole family can benefit from a low fat, high fiber diet.

    Young children that have recently become toilet trained should be encouraged to spend an extra minute or two on the toilet rather than "poop and run", which may encourage incompletely emptying the rectum leading to constipation problems. - Updated: March 8, 2001
