We perform Urinalysis using a "dip stick" method. In this method, chemical reactions cause color changes on ten different pads on the test strip. Depending on the color change, we can determine if there is blood, sugar, and protein in the urine, as well as determine the pH and specific gravity of the urine sample.

Urinalysis test strips are shown. The test strip is dipped into the patient's urine sample. At the correct time interval, the color of the test strip pads are compared to the standardized color chart and the results are recorded.
This is the color comparison chart used for determining the results of the ten urinalysis subtests.
